3.5" long straight naal (needle) made from bog oak. Used for naalbinding, which is also known as single-needle netting. These naals feature an oval hole to accommodate thicker yarns, and are hand sanded extra smooth.
Bog oak is not a specific species of oak. Rather, the wood comes from trees that lived 1,000 to 6,000 years ago, that became buried in a peat bog. The low oxygen, high mineral environment preserves the wood while changing its characteristics and creating the rich dark color you see here.
